We Made It!
After many months, countless bowls of lightener, endless Olaplex treatments and a global pandemic - I am officially wearing Boho extensions! I spent the lockdown with my hair coated in treatments and tried to avoid heat styling as much as possible. This gave my hair a much needed break and time to repair. Once we were ready to reopen, we did one last session to get us over the finish line!
The Final Session
Since my hair had a solid break, we knew we could safely do one more lightening session to reach our end point. Ivette did a few foils to break up my roots and brightened a few sections of my ends to make sure the light pieces in my hair matched the lighter tones in the extensions. She used BlondMe lightener with Olaplex to preserve the integrity of my hair.
Using Redken Shades Eq, we toned the extensions before installation with the same toner we would be using on my hair to ensure a seamless match. We used a half head of extensions (60g) in the colour Boho and kept most of the length.
From start to finish the job took 6 months (which probably could have been 4 without the lockdown). These types of transformations can be done in less time and fewer sessions, but the risk of really damaging your hair is much higher. My hair did feel healthier when it was dark, but we managed to avoid excessive damage for such a drastic change. I give credit to Olaplex (I literally use every single product in the line) for keeping my hair strong through all the chemical processing.
It should also be noted that extensions can make a huge difference in achieving a drastic colour change. They can create a more dramatic balayage look without having to over process your ends.
Here is the cost breakdown for the full transformation:
