Your extensions looked amazing the first few months, but something feels a little off and you can't pin point exactly what.
Here's the truth from your stylist friend: even the best human hair doesn't last forever. It gets washed, heat-styled, sweaty, chlorinated, brushed and slept on, just like your own hair. Eventually it's time for a fresh set.
The tricky part is knowing when. So we made you a quick checklist. Take two minutes and see where your hair is at.

The 5 signs it's time for new hair
Check off any that sound familiar.
☐ Your ends feel dry or tangle after washing. Fresh extensions brush out smoothly. If the ends are knotting, matting or feeling like straw no matter how much conditioner you use, the cuticle has been compromised.
☐ Your wefts feel thinner. Hair naturally sheds a little from the weft over time. Your stylist may also note during your maintenance appointments that the weft has less density.
☐ It doesn't blend like it used to. When your extensions may have a different texture than they did at the start. Maybe they're more frizzy or stiff.
☐ The colour has faded or turned brassy. Sun, heat tools and washing can pull pigment out. If your blonde has gone warm or your brunette looks dull next to your roots, the shade no longer matches.
☐ It's gotten shorter from trims. Every trim to clean up the ends takes off length. If your 20" now sits closer to 16", you're not getting the look you paid for.
Two or more? It's time.
One sign on its own can often be fixed with a deep-conditioning treatment, a toner or a good trim. Two or more usually means the hair has reached the end of its life.
You can absolutely keep wearing it, but you may spend more time styling it and get less of the result you want. A fresh set brings back the fullness, blend and colour that made you love extensions in the first place.
How long does QALI hair last?
With regular wear and proper care, most QALI clients get 6-9 months out of a set of wefts and 12-18 months from clip-ins. How you treat your hair and the product you use makes the biggest difference.
A few habits that stretch the life of your set:
- Wash less often (2-3x per week), and use a sulphate-free shampoo and a hydrating conditioner.
- Always use heat protectant, and keep hot tools at a medium setting.
- Brush gently from the ends up with tangle teezer or soft-bristle brush.
- Sleep in a loose braid or on a silk pillowcase to cut down on tangles.
- Keep up with your maintenance appointments so your wefts are moved up and checked.
- Get a trim every 3rd maintenance appointment.
